What does Simon and Garfunkel, Kansas and Katy Perry all have in common? Surprisingly, they’ve all performed at Grove City College. Today there is a big push by students on campus to bring back big named performers once again. While Katy Perry probably won’t be performing again at the college anytime soon (she performed in 2001 as Katy Hudson, a Christian rock singer), the college will have its first big band in recent years this Saturday (April 2nd).
Student run Stonebridge Concerts has been working on a new initiative called #dreamsgolive, with the goal of bringing popular bands to campus. With more funding from the college, the group is bringing the Oh Hellos to Crawford Auditorium this Saturday at 8pm. “Grove City College upped the budget a lot after the dreams-go-live initiative started. We hope this is a stepping stone to much bigger things,” said Jared Grace, sophomore and board member of Stonebridge Concerts.
The Oh Hellos is an American Folk Rock group that knows how to put on a good show. Jared says Stonebridge Concert’s focus is bringing bands that will create a music experience you won’t forget, and The Oh Hellos fits that bill. The band has more than 800k followers on Spotify.
“Their newest album is inspired by C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters. While they definitely have Christian undertones in their music, not every band going forward has to be a Christian band. I’d say they just have to create uplifting music with a positive message,” said Grace.
THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED
More than 400 of the 1000 tickets have been sold. Grace says they are reaching out and inviting the entire community. “Everyone from parents who love folk to High School students are invited. We really want to connect the college with the community more. We’re a great college in an awesome town and we want to bring that together.”
